Temporary Crowns

Temporary Crown Issues

Temporary crowns are implements that keep a tooth in place and safe from germs and plaque until a permanent crown is set in place.

If the temporary crown falls off, it can cause the teeth to shift. If this happens, there is a chance that the permanent crown being fabricated will no longer fit. If your crown has fallen off, keep it if you’re able to, and bring it to your dentist immediately so it can be re-cemented.

If you’re unable to come to the office right away, it is possible to make an attempt at replacing the crown on your own. If the crown stays on your tooth, be careful not to chew on that side of your mouth until a dentist is able to fix the problem properly. You can buy denture adhesive cream at a pharmacy to apply to the area if the crown is loose. Place a small bit of cream under the crown and gently bite down to secure it. Then keep the area away from food and other objects until you’re able to see a dentist.
